Halloween's True History
It started with the Celts and their festival of Samhain over two thousand years ago. They lit bonfires to ward off spirits and wore scary masks to blend in for protection. Later, the church made November first All Saints Day, turning the night before into All Hallows' Eve. In the nineteenth century, Irish and Scottish immigrants brought these traditions across the ocean to America. Today, we celebrate with costumes, carved pumpkins, and trick-or-treating through modern neighborhoods.
